Director of Student and Family Ministries

Church Description: Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church (OSLC) has a vital, energetic, spirit-led, Christ-centered congregation that was founded by Scandinavian settlers whose roots are still evident today.  The church’s mission consists of three tenets; encounter God, encourage believers, and extend his kingdom.  In addition to a traditional and contemporary service Sunday mornings there are numerous opportunities to grow in the Word of God, foster fellowship and become involved in outreach ministry.  In addition, the church operates a pre-school.  Position Description: A full-time (40 hours/week) position overseeing ministry programs for students pre-k through grade 12 that engages and encourages our youth to build a personal relationship with Jesus Christ through worshipping God, connecting with each other, discovering God’s Word, serving our community, and sharing Christ with others. The Director of Student and Family Ministries shall provide planning, implementation, coordination and development of student programs and events.  The director will recruit and mentor volunteers to serve in student ministries. Qualifications:

  • Certificate in Youth/Family Ministry from an accredited school or comparable credentials
  • Two to three years’ experience in youth/family ministries
  • Possess a personal relationship with Christ, be able to articulate their faith to others, and have a working knowledge of the Bible

Responsibilities:

  • Minister to student groups of the church and community
  • Plan, coordinate, and develop programs that support the vision and mission of OSLC for Sunday morning education for all students, Vacation Bible Camp, Middle School/High School Youth groups, after school programs, and family events, and assist with confirmation
  • Recruit, mentor and coordinate congregational members and parents to assist with student/family ministries
  • Develop a year-round calendar which provides consistent and timely communication with youth, families, and congregation about programs
  • Develop a budget and provide financial accounting for youth/family ministries
  • Prepare a written year-end youth/family ministries report for OSLC
  • Foster relationships with other youth ministries in our community
  • Evaluate and plan participation in larger (regional or national) youth events for students of all ages
  • Be available to support students through conversation, guidance and non-church activities
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and monthly council meetings
  • Produce newsletter and website articles
  • Regularly attend worship and participate in life of the congregation

Supervision and Accountability:

  • Reports to lead pastor
  • 90-day review
  • Yearly performance evaluation

Additional Requirements:

  • Commitment to become a member of OSLC
  • Current driver’s license without restrictions
  • Must submit to being fingerprinted
  • Must pass WSP background check

  Description of Community: Stanwood, sitting at the mouth of the Stillaguamish River, is the commercial and cultural hub of the greater Stanwood/Camano community located 50 miles north of Seattle and just five miles west of Interstate 5.  The population of Stanwood is approximately 7,000 and there are about 17,000 living on Camano Island.  The City has retained its small town character and sense of community.  The City’s historic resources have been preserved and the connections to the surrounding agricultural land and rural environment have been strengthened.  New residential neighborhoods and commercial centers form an aesthetically pleasing community character.  The City and community work cooperatively together to promote tourism, access to local natural features offering outstanding recreational opportunities and special events.  The community has an exceptional public school system with a new high school and alternative learning program building scheduled to open in 2020.
